Shakira and Rihanna are possibly working on a hot new collaboration that is expected to be released sometime in 2014. Although neither singers have officially confirmed the duet, information circulating supports the pairing. In an interview with "Kidd Kraddick In The Morning," Pitbull let it slip that the two ladies were working together after he explained Rihanna was his first choice to feature on on "Timber." "The person we were looking at first to work on that record was Rihanna. There was something she had to do with Shakira, so she wasn't able to be on the record," said Mr. 305. Another fact leading us to believe of the collab is a Tweet by Shakira that reads, "I Just finished the video for my first single with director Joseph Kahn!" The clip was shot in the Bahamas with the director having previously worked with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
The song duet with Shakira and Rihanna was confirmed by Chief Marketing Officer for Pepsi, Frank Cooper on Twitter. "Rihanna and shakira working on a hot duet. Epic!," he wrote. When the Editorial Director of Billboard, Bill Werde, asked if he had listened to the song and to sing a bit he replied, "sworn to secrecy on this one. Plus I could never do justice to the song with my voice." If this single is chosen as the lead single for Shakira's upcoming English-language album, it could be very explosive. With the Colombian singer coming back to "The Voice" in the Spring on NBC, it will provide her with a great launch pad to release her new musical work. It could be a great year for Shakira who has previously collaborated with Beyoncé on the hit track "Beautiful Liar."
However, "Beautiful Liar" was not well received by the "California Gurl" singing Katy Perry when that tune was released. The "Roar" hitmaker dissed the collaboration and said she would be working on a duet with Rihanna. "'Its' one of those things where it's gotten so much build up that if we don't' deliver, like, the best song... We're both busy, but we planted a seed two years ago, we're just looking for that special one," she told BBC Radio 1 in 2012. "How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it wasn't that good? So sometimes you have to wait for greatness." Perry added, "I was telling her, you know the Eurythmics song featuring Aretha Franklin, Sisters are Doing it for Themselves... That's like the kind of song which I'd like to do, rather than Beautiful Liar." In an attempt to cover up the shade she just threw at Beyonce and Shakira she further dissed them. "Although that is still a great song... I loved that but I definitely want to do something which is iconic." As of now Perry and Rihanna have not released their collaboration and Shakira stepped it up. With Perry's existing friendship with the "Stay" singer, will she be honest if she doesn't like the duet?
