Late last month, the news about a first collaboration between Colombia natives Shakira and Carlos Vives broke thanks to Barranquilla Mayor Alejandro Char Chaljub. The power duo began their recording sessions for the single “La Bicicleta” before visiting Shakira’s native Barranquilla to film its music video.
The songstress reportedly flew in from Barcelona’s Ernesto Cortissoz Airport, and while dozens of fans were waiting for her at the airport, Shakira was inaccessible to fans. Sources said the “Waka, Waka” singer’s security was so tight, it was impossible to even get a glimpse of her.
Vives and Shakira were spotted and pictured riding bikes together and seemingly having a great time.

Aside from the Magdalena River, the video will feature scenes shot in the neighboring city of Cienaga, in Salamanca Island Road Park, in Barranquilla.
“I've always dreamt of writing, producing and recording a song with Shakira so that together we can show our Colombia to the world,” Vives told Billboard at the time of the announcment. “She has taken our country's music to unimaginable heights, and finally being able to collaborate with her is a realization of this dream.”
While the two artists have known each other for years and even performed together at a concert in a 2008 Concert for Peace, the possibility of them working together just became realistic last year. Vives resurfaced to the public eye last year, after a decade of being away from commercial recording.
The single will mark the first time Shakira collaborates with a fellow Colombian.
Let’s hope this will give us a glimpse into Shak’s highly awaited and anticipated next album, which the singer has been teasing to on social media. The songstress did say at a press conference in October 2015 that she would beginning working on the new material at the end of last year or beginning of this year.
