Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy recently voiced his support for vaccines and encouraged people to get vaccinated after voting to confirm known anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

On Tuesday, Sen. Cassidy took to X to discuss the efficacy of the measles vaccine with his audience following news of a measles outbreak in Texas.

"This is a serious measles outbreak in Texas," wrote the Senator. "The measles vaccine has been proven safe & effective since 1963."

Cassidy was met with an onslaught of criticism from users pointing out that he voted to confirm RFK Jr. as Health Secretary last week.

Earlier this month, Cassidy spoke about his decision to vote to confirm RFK Jr. on the Senate floor before the vote was held.

"Then why did you vote to confirm an HHS secretary who undermines the safety of fully vetted vaccines?" wrote one frustrated user.

"You voted for this," commented the X profile representing the Lincoln Project, a coalition of Republicans opposing President Donald Trump.

"Yeah you confirmed an anti-vaxxer! We don't believe you when you post this!" said another.

"It was a decision I studied exhaustively. I took very seriously. As I said I would, I spoke with Mr. Kennedy not once, but multiple times over the weekend, including this morning. We had in-depth conversations about the medical literature and the science behind the safety of vaccines. He referred me to studies and people. I reviewed them and spoke to those whom he mentioned I should speak to," said Cassidy.

"I want Mr. Kennedy to succeed in making America healthy again. His success will be tied to the health of our nation. He has the opportunity to address the most pertinent issues affecting Americans' health. We also need to reform our health institutions like FDA and NIH. Those, as already been indicated, are my priorities as Chairman of HELP Committee. I look forward to his support in accomplishing this," he continued.
