Amid cheating allegations, Colombian singer Shakira and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique called it quits after being together for 11 years.
The singer and the athlete recently released a statement to confirm that their relationship has ended, reported Goal. The joint statement said that they regret to confirm that "we are parting ways." The statement further read that for the well-being of their children, "who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy." The Colombian singer and the Barcelona center-back have two children together -- Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
In a 2020 interview, Pique recalled the first time he met Shakira, who performed at the 2010 World Cup before Spain defeated Netherlands in the final. He said that he told her that he'd see her at the final, and she was going to perform in the closing ceremony and he was certain "we'd make it that far."
The break-up news comes as El Periodico, a Spanish daily newspaper, published allegations made by video podcast Mamarazzis that claimed that Pique "has been seen accompanied by other women." Daily Star reported that despite social media allegations, the woman who Pique allegedly cheated on Shakira with is not the mother of Barcelona team-mate Pablo Gavi.
Last week reports emerged that Pique and Shakira were on the verge of parting ways after the athlete was caught in bed with another woman. Reports from a troll Twitter account falsely went on to claim that the woman involved was the mother of Barca starlet Gavi, 17. El Periodico’s report firmly debunked the claims and specified that the woman in question was in her 20s and blonde. Going by the description, it rules out Gavi’s brunette mother, who is believed to be called Gavinin Anasi.
According to the report, the woman who could have put Pique and Shakira on the brink of breaking up is a" young blonde in her 20s. She is studying and works as an event hostess.” It comes after it was claimed that the former couple have been living separately for a few weeks. Pique was reportedly kicked out of the family home by the Colombian pop star. The athlete is now reportedly staying in a bachelor pad and has been living a "party lifestyle" since the break-up.
