“Sex Education” star Gillian Anderson will be in Gloucestershire later this month to film the second season of the hit Netflix series.
The beloved “X-Files” star is set to reprise her role as single mom Jean Milburn, a well-known sex therapist who frequently enjoys one-night stands. She has a sexually awkward son, Otis, played by Asa Butterfield, who inadvertently becomes his school’s sex therapist.
In the British series, which became an instant hit among American audiences, Anderson’s Jean lives with Otis in a Scandinavian-inspired red and white chalet overlooking the Symonds Yat East. This stunning chalet is found in the Forest of Dean and borders Wales and Gloucestershire and, according to Evening Standard, was once a B&B but may have already closed as the last Google review was nine months ago.
According to Gloucestershire Live, the cast and crew will soon head to the show’s locations, which had Americans “drooling over,” especially at the chalet (Jean and Otis’ house) with a view of the River Wye. As the site reported, Gloucestershire shopkeeper Ruth Brown confirmed that the production team will be back in her village shop in Llandogo to shoot various scenes for the show’s second season.
“Yes they are coming back at the end of the month,” Brown told Goucestershire Live. “They need the shop for more filming so we will close for a few days.”
“I think the series has been good for the area,” she added. “We have had a lot of people coming in and asking lots of questions and taking photographs of the shop.”
Indeed, the combination of sex and stunning landscape has made the British coming-of-age drama comedy such a hit and got everybody talking about it since the show’s premiere on Jan. 11, 2019. In February, Netflix announced that the series had been renewed for a second season.
The first season of “Sex Education” was penned by series creator Laurie Nunn and executive produced by Jamie Campbell and Ben Taylor. ScreenRant announced earlier this month that Nunn and Campbell will be back as creative heads for Season 2.
Along with Anderson and Butterfield, Gatwa, and Mackey, Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee), Connor Swindells (Adam), Patricia Allison (Ola), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson) and Alistair Petrie (Mr. Groff) are set to reprise their roles.
