Sergio Garcia has issued an apology to his golfing nemesis Tiger Woods. On Thursday night while attending the European Tours Awards Dinner Sergio Garcia made a racist comment about Tiger Woods when he said he would serve the famous golfer fried chicken.
The Event was held in London and according to the Washington Post the emcee of the evening, Steve Sands asked Sergio Garcia if he would invite Tiger Woods over for dinner during the US Open next month.
"We will have him 'round every night," Garcia said. "We will serve fried chicken."
CNN says, "Fried chicken is a common food in the American south, but when used in reference to African-Americans, it often implies a negative stereotype."
ESPN reports that Sergio Garcia issued a statement Tuesday night apologizing for his racist comment against Tiger Woods.
"I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players' Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner."
Tiger Woods took to Twitter posting two tweets, the first suggested he did not find Sergio Garcia's remark sincere.
"The comment that was made wasn't silly. It was wrong hurtful and clearly inappropriate.
In his second tweet Woods said he believes Garcia regrets his statement.
"I'm confident that there is real regret that the remark was made."
In an additional tweet Woods suggested that everyone put the remark in the past saying, "it's long past time to move on and talk about golf again."
Many sports publications like CBS Sports, are saying that the racist remark made by Sergio Garcia has officially put an end to the juvenile feud between him and Woods.
