Due to backlash from sporting a bindi during her MTV Movie Award performance in April, pop star Selena Gomez opted to leave the Hindu forehead piece out of the music video for her new song, "Come & Get It."
Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, criticized the starlet for her fashion choice, deeming it "insensitive."
"It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed," he said last month. "Selena should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions."
Although Gomez originally defended her decision to wear the bindi on Z100 and Letterman, she opted to not include the traditional forehead decoration as part of her video wardrobe. In a statement after the video's release, Zed expressed gratitude for Gomez's decision to leave the bindi out, even suggesting she "seriously explore Hinduism," offering his, or other Hindu scholars' assistance.
