Selena Gomez donned a bindi and performed what critics considered an exotic and ethnically influenced song. However, Officials at the Universal Society of Hinduism are not sharing the same sentiment about her MTV Movie Awards performance and are demanding an apology from Gomez.

Gomez, 20, performed her latest single "Come and Get It" which boosts a Bollywood vibe although it possesses no actual relevance to India culture.

Several Hindu leaders according to DNAIndia believe that the "Come and Get It" performance was "insensitive" and insist that she no longer performs the single with misplaced cultural references most specifically wearing a bindi.

Wearing a bindi on one's forehead is a ancient Hindu practice that has possess religious meaning, traditionally the bindi is worn between the eyebrows, this spot is considered the sixth chakra or the seat of concealed wisdom. Hinduism states the area is an exit point for kundali energy.

Officials at the Universal Society of Hinduism were not the only people upset while watching Selena's "Come and Get It" performance. Her twitter followers were angered by apparent disrespect for Hindu religion.

Gomez has yet to respond to the demand for an apology.
