Sara Ramirez has decided that its time to end her run at Grey's Anatomy for a bit this upcoming May. And , oh yeah! She also let the world know that though she is married to Ryan DeBolt, she is bisexual.
Ramirez dropped these bombshells during a speech in Los Angeles at the True Colors Fund's 40 to None Summit. Ramirez, who plays a bisexual character on the show has shown that once again art so often reflects life.
As reported on Fox News, she spoke about the parallels of the diversity of titles in her life and how they compare to young people living on the streets now and their varied backgrounds. "So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections," Ramirez explained, "whether they be gender identity, expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, and citizenship status."
Sara, who shares a duel Mexican-Irish American heritage pointed to her real life positions as a woman of multi-races, color, queer, bisexual, immigrant, tied together by roots in the Catholic religion which frowns on this. "I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth's voices to be heard, that support them in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to," Ramirez explained.
She also announced on twitter that she would be posting a video of the full speech in a short time. Many responded with applause for her courage. She further touched on her leaving and thanked Shonda Rhimes and her co-stars on the show. "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last ten years with my family at Grey's Anatomy and ABC but for now I'm taking some welcome time off."
This talented actress will be truly missed by her legions of "Grey's" fans; we wish her every success in the future.
