Technology giant Samsung announced it will be awarding a total of $800,000 in prizes to application developers who can integrate their software kit into a great new app. The "Smart App Challenge 2013" must utilize Samsung's Chord Software Development Kit, just as the traditional Hershey's Baking Contests held at state fairs must use Hershey's brand chocolate.

According to Tech Hive, the Chord SDK allows users of Samsung mobile devices to connect wirelessly between each other without using a network or Internet server. The submitted application must also be able to use a specific tenet of Samsung's technology which allows for purchases and advertisements to commence within the actual usage of the app, in order to be a qualified entrant.

"The Samsung Smart App Challenge will greatly enhance application choices for [the] Galaxy S4 so users can enjoy a valuable experience," said Samsung's president of its Electronics Media Solution Center to the Android Authority.

Those developers interested in submitting apps to the Samsung Smart App Challenge must do so between June 20 and August 31 of this year. The first place winner will receive a reported $200,000, and nine other app developers will receive similarly huge sums from the South Korean technology company.
