It has been revealed that Samsung plans to dazzle fans with incredible 560 ppi WQHD panels in their Galaxy S5 and future smartphones. And you thought the current 441 ppi displays on the Galaxy S4 were impressive. The 2560 x 1440 displays that Samsung says are on the way will pack nearly as many pixels into the new smartphones. This is the same amount of pixels Apple manages to fit into the new MacBook Pro devices, so you can get an idea of how wonderful this display will be. Keep in mind, however, that the effects will differ on the 13-inch and 15-inche than it will be in the 5-inch range.
Even more good news is that Samsung revealed at their 2013 Analyst Day that it plans on shipping 4K display in their phones by 2015, which means that in less than two years the Samsung Galaxy 6 and Galaxy Note 5 will have twice the resolution of today's 1080p devices. This shouldn't be too surprising as it keeps in line with the trend. The Galaxy S2 arrived in spring 2011 with a 4-inch, 480 x 800 pixel display then evolved to today's 1080p display, which is a large leap.
Moreover although Samsung didn't announce any plans for any flexible or curved devices they did remind people that the company owns 33 percent of all flexible display-related patents. Also announced to be coming from Samsung in the next couple of years is 64-bit Exynos processors, which will be important to push all those extra pixels to the new devices. Besides pushing pixels that extra computing power is going to put these devices in an entirely new league.
