A Salvadorean nun in Italy has given birth after she felt stomach cramps and was rushed to hospital - the even more shocking part? She had no idea she was pregnant. The 31-year-ol gave birth in Rieti hospital to a healthy 7.7 pound baby boy and are collecting donations. "I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the nun was quoted the Italian news agency ANSA reported. According to La Republica, the nun gave birth on Wednesday and named her baby Francesco - the Pope's chosen title.
The nun from El Salvador was part of the convent of Little Disciples of Jesus who are in charge of a nursing home. Her fellow nuns decided to call the emergency when the 31-year-old complained of "severe pain in the belly." Informed of the nun's state, the other nuns were understandably shocked by the news. Mother Superior Sister Herminia assured the press that the Salvadorean had "done everything on her own" and emphasized that the religious convent had no idea of the nun's state.
"She did not know how to resist temptation, but she has not hurt anyone. I don't know why there is so much attention on this story," said Sister Herminia who said they "could not imagine something like this." The Salvadorean nun is apparently going to keep the child and is already receiveing clothing donations for her child. The "Little Disciples of Jesus" Convent is located in Campomoro, near Reiti. The convent manages an old people's home.
