Pope Francis honored Salma Hayek for her work in the arts and for using her status as a celebrity to promote unity and peace.
The honor, called the Olive Medal, was a part of an event held at the Vatican on Sunday, May 29 to promote the Pontiff’s new initiative Scholas Occurrentes, which is dedicated to encourage social integration through art and technology.
The Mexican actress stopped by “The Graham Norton Show” set earlier this month to talk about her experience during the ceremony, and revealed she was “nervous” to meet the head of the Catholic Church after posting a racy photo with fellow actress Susan Sarandon.
“I was very honored and excited to be receiving a medal from him,” she told host Graham Norton. “But I was really nervous because I had just posted an Instagram of me staring at Susan Sarandon’s boobs.”
She continued, “I was so afraid he would see that picture and take away my medal!”
The social media post Hayek is referring to is a photo shared about two weeks ago in which the actresses seem to be discussing the size of their breasts.
“Salma: ‘Susan, you are bigger than me!’” the 49-year-old jarocha captioned the image. “Susan Sarandon: ‘Of course I am…’”
The “Frida” star recently opened up about her relationship with husband Francois Pinault during an interview for Red Magazine and confessed that keeping the flame alive is the most important thing in any marriage.
“Sex is not the key to a happy marriage, but it’s a side effect,” she disclosed. “Although not every day! If it’s every day, it loses its charm. It’s so important to maintain your chemistry. You have to continue to laugh, explore, have fun with each other, and have romance. A good marriage full of love is my biggest accomplishment. Home is where my husband is. He is home. Everything outside of the family nucleus is an adventure that you’re living together.”
