Salma Hayek and her hubby of five years, French businessman François-Henri Pinault are saying “Au Revoir” to France and relocating to London. It’s been said that the power couple are moving to the UK to avoid a 75 percent supertax in Pinault’s home country, introduced by Socialist President François Hollande. London has become a target city for the wealthy French, becoming the sixth largest “French city” in the world, with more than 300,000 French people living there, according to the Daily Mail.
However, Hayek has insisted her family move is not because of tax purposes, but more for career reasons. “I want to clarify, it’s not for tax purposes. We are still paying taxes here in France,” she told The Times Magazine, referring to her husband’s company Kering, a luxury goods group that owns several fashion houses including Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Stella McCartney, and it’s based in Paris. “We think that London has a lot more to offer than just a better tax situation. François thinks London is very cosmopolitan. I think it will be good for my career too,” she added.
The Mexican actress, 47, continued to explain that she doesn’t really agree with the education system in France, and that was one of the reasons that fueled the big move. She said she had difficulty finding the right school for daughter Valentina, 6, who is just about to begin her education. “They [the school] want to put her one year behind, because she was born in September, and I disagree with the system.”
“As good as the schools are, if they don’t recognize how special my child is -- she speaks three languages and understands five -- then they’re not that good, are they?” So far there’s no set date to when the Pinault-Hayek family will change cities.
