Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continues to endure countless backlash as the election draws near. Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek puts the candidate on blast for his unsurprising behavior.
According to Buzzfeed, Salma Hayek says that the story of her rejecting Donald Trump’s romantic advances years ago which led to a tabloid story this past weekend is “insignificant” in terms of this presidential election.
The site reports the actress claims that Trump pursued the actress while she had a boyfriend and asked her out on a date. After being angry about being rejected, he planted a National Enquirer story about her being too short for him.
“When I met that man, I had a boyfriend, and he tried to become his friend to get my home telephone number,” Hayek, who is a Hillary Clinton supporter, told El Show del Mandril on Radio Centro in Los Angeles on Friday, according to BuzzFeed. “He got my number, and he would call me to invite me out.”
Hayek, who is a known Hilary Clinton supporter, began speaking about Trump being bad for the Latino community and extolled Clinton’s virtues, before the host of El Show del Mandril on Radio Centro 93.9 in Los Angeles asked her opinion on the number of women accusing Trump for of sexual assault.
“Later, he called and left me a message. ‘Can you believe this? Who would say this? I don’t want people to think this about you,’” she said. “He thought that I would try to go out with him so people wouldn’t think that’s why he wouldn’t go out with me.”
However, on Monday, a press call organized by the Clinton campaign has the actress calling the story insignificant. She does say that it shows how Trump treats women.
“I think he was trying to make me feel humiliated and go out with him,” she stated. “I am not humiliated for being short. I am 5’ 2" – I didn’t want to be a model, and I didn’t want to be a basketball player. My height has never stopped me from doing anything that I’ve wanted to do."
Hayek also said that his treatment toward her specifically is not the reason she’s voting against him in November.
Instead, she criticized his rhetoric against Hispanics and immigrants, contradictory statements he's made throughout the campaign and yes, his comments about women.
"Every time he speaks, he lies," she said.
Trump has yet to comment on Hayek’s statements.
