Meghan Markle’s explosive revelations—at Oprah Winfrey’s show—pertaining to her alleged mistreatment within the British Royal Family has triggered more than angst. In what seems like a strong possibility; Buckingham Palace is reportedly making arrangements to onboard a diversity chief.
“Diversity is an issue which has been taken very seriously across the Royal Households,” said a royal source on Sunday, as reported by CNN. “We have the policies, the procedures, and programs in place but we haven't seen the progress we would like in terms of representation, and more needs to be done, we can always improve,” added the source.
While the royal insider claims that the idea has been in the back of their minds for long; the speculations of such an appointment come shortly after Prince Harry and Markle made a spate of statements, alleging how they were subjected to covert racism—as a member of the royal family raised questions about their unborn child’s complexion.
The development however is at a nascent stage and may take a while to shape up. “Lots of measures are being considered. Certainly, the idea of someone to spearhead this work and look at diversity/inclusion across the three households is something that has to be considered. It is too early however for any firm plans to be announced. We are listening and learning, to get this right,” added the source.
The Sussexes were vocal about a lot of things in the past, including being on the receiving end of viciousness by the British press. The open condemnation led to the head of the UK Society of Editors putting down his papers after his vehement denial of the accusations.
The bombshell interview that aired on CBS earlier this month brought forth several other controversies, including the royal family bringing up accusations against Markle—on the grounds of bullying Palace staff. An external law firm has been roped in to probe further into the matter.
