After weeks of speculation producers of ABC Daytime talk show "The View" are diversifying and have added the first Latina regular to the panel. Rosie Perez, who was born in Brooklyn, New York to Puerto Rican parents, will be sharing her view every morning on the controversial talker. Perez will be joining Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell when the show returns from hiatus on Monday, September 15. Also joining the panel is former MSNBC analyst Nicolle Wallace. "I am beyond thrilled, honored and completely surprised that I've been asked to join 'The View,'" Perez said in a statement. "Knowing that I'll be in the company of Whoopi, Rosie and Nicolle, three very smart and engaging women that I have an immense amount of respect for, makes it even more unbelievable. The opportunity to connect with our nation's audience on a daily basis ... icing on the cake! Very happy."
ABC's "The View" has undergone a major revamp following the departure of Barbara Walters earlier this year and the surprising axing of Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy over the summer. The daytime talker also recently hired a new producer, introduced a new logo and will be unveiling the new set soon in hopes of sparking interest in the show again. O'Donnell who was mediator only last a season on the program, a very controversial season that made the show generated interest and ratings levels to rise. After an argument with political conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie decided to leave the morning show and did not renew her contract. She was asked back this year most likely with the intentions to bring back those glory days and with Wallace on the panel, sparks are sure to fly. In any case, we are excited that Latinos will be present on the panel and hopefully more topics concerning our community will be discussed.
