Actress Rosario Dawson has been extremely active during this election, and a long-time Bernie Sanders supporter. But yesterday, Dawson got arrested in Washington D.C. after taking part in a Democracy Spring protest for obstructing or incommoding after crossing police lines. Though she was not handcuffed, the actress was given a $50 ticket, which was processed on site. Even so, Dawson remained in good spirits and even said the police had been “really great,” except they’re not necessarily like that to others who are not celebs. “The police were really great with us and really lovely, I have to say that is not the case for so many people.”
“This is a tremendous issue and I'm really grateful that I could be here and be a part of it,” Dawson told reporters. “I wanted for me, personally, to be in solidarity with the people who put themselves on the line.”
This is not the first time the 36-year-old actress has been arrested, as she had a similar incident in 2004 while protesting President George W. Bush.
Recently, Dawson and Calle 13 frontman joined Sanders at his New York rally in South Bronx. In addition, the half Puerto Rican and half Cuban actress recently endorsed the Democratic candidate in a speech and addressed a letter to Dolores Huerta, accusing the activist of spreading lies about Bernie.
“You stood up and gave a voice to the less fortunate and unrepresented parts of our communities, no matter what obstacles or challenges were thrown in your way,” she wrote. “That the same woman who has made it her life’s mission to speak the truth and shed light on corruption, lies, and false narratives created by the corporate elite and special interest groups, would now suddenly create a narrative that distorts facts and misguides American voters.”
