A horde of Chicagoans fled after hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash fell from the back of a Brinks truck last week.

Three bags filled with approximately $300,000 in cash fell out the door of a Brinks truck after it opened by "unknown means" in Oak Park, a village adjacent to Chicago, a Brinks complaint obtained by NBC 5 revealed.

Drivers and bystanders immediately began grabbing cash and putting it in their pockets, jackets and bags. When authorities arrived at the scene minutes after the driver alerted local law enforcement, approximately 50 to 100 suspects fled on foot and in their vehicles.

Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating the opportunistic burglars. Authorities warned that anyone who keeps the money can potentially face criminal charges, including theft of lost or mislaid property.

No arrests have been made.
