Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly held crunch talks with agent Jorge Mendes over his future at Manchester United.
Mendes has tried to calm the goalscorer down after he has been ruled out of Sunday's Manchester derby against Manchester City. However, reports claimed that Ronaldo is increasingly intent on moving out from Manchester United in this summer transfer window, less than a year after his emotional return to Old Trafford.
The player is reported to be still furious after being told by interim boss Ralf Rangnick that he would be deployed as a super-sub at the Etihad. Ronaldo afterward complained of a hip problem and was dropped from the team. He flew to Portugal instead of joining his teammates at the city center Lowry Hotel last Saturday night as they prepared for their Sunday afternoon showdown with Man City.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo has addressed rumors that the decision to leave him out was a tactical one. He posted on Instagram, confirming that he was recovering from injury. "Hard work towards a strong recovery. Eager to get back on the pitch and help the team," Ronaldo captioned together with a photo of him running hard at Carrington.
The 37-year-old striker returned to the club's Carrington training ground Wednesday and was said to be the last player to leave. He was also seen on Thursday but did not join in full training. Tension around the training field has been observed as players are aware of Ronaldo's mood. His participation in Manchester United's match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday is in doubt after he was unable to train with the squad for a second successive day.
Ronaldo officially signed a two-year deal when he returned to Old Trafford at the start of the season. Though he made a good start with 15 goals, only one of them has come in his last 10 appearances.
Manchester United are currently a point behind Arsenal, who hold last Champions League spot. They have three games in hand over United. The Red Devil's Saturday's opponents Tottenham, fresh from a 4-0 win at Leeds and 5-0 thumping of Everton, are also in the frame with West Ham.
