Alex Rodriguez Trenton Thunder
New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez hits a solo home run in the third inning of a Class AA baseball game with the Trenton Thunder against the Reading Phillies, Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, in Trenton, N.J The Associated Press

The New York Yankees currently sit in fourth place in the American League East, 9 ½ games behind the first place Boston Red Sox and 4 ½ games behind the Cleveland Indians for the final American League Wild Card spot.

Struggling mightily on the offensive end this season due to a plethora of injuries, the Bronx Bombers certainly could use any help that comes their way.

Despite the fact that he's staring at a lengthy suspension for the use of performance enhancing drugs, multiple sources are indicating that long-time Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez plans to rejoin the team on Monday following a minor league rehab stint.

An announcement from Major League Baseball regarding the possible suspension for Rodriguez and other players is expected to come around noon on Monday, August 5.

With the Yankees set to take on a dismal Chicago White Sox club, the team hopes the addition of the All-Star will help in the run-scoring department, even if the 38-year-old is looking at an MLB penalty.

When and Where to Watch NY Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox

A-Rod is penciled in Joe Girardi's line-up for the club's next contest against the White Sox and even though a suspension appears imminent, expect Rodriguez to play until any action is taken by the league.

The Yankees will travel to U.S. Cellular Field on Monday, August 5 for a showdown with the Chicago White Sox (40-69). With first pitch set for 8:10pm, ET, television coverage will be provided by the YES Network in the New York metro area and the CSN network across the Chicago area.

A-Rod Returning Despite Expected Suspension

Rodriguez didn't display his hitting ability in Saturday's rehab game with the Trenton Thunder - mainly because he walked 4 times - but because the Yankees have received little production from the third base position this season, the club is happy to have the services of the 38-year-old even if they don't know how long he'll remain with the big league team.

"I think all of us are curious what's going to happen, and is Alex going to be a player for us tomorrow, and what's going to happen with the other guys that are involved in this?" manager Joe Girardi said recently to ESPN New York. "In my mind I have him penciled in there [Monday]."

If Rodriguez is in fact suspended - as many believe - the penalty handed down from MLB could carry through the entire 2014 season.

Though he's been battling constant off-the-field issues regarding his possible suspension, Rodriguez says he is just happy to soon re-join his teammates after missing the entire season due to injury.

"I feel great. It was great to see a lot of pitches and play back-to-back days. I also got some action at third base and I'm ready to go," the third baseman said at a recent press conference. "I can't wait to see my teammates. I feel like I can help us win and be a better team and I haven't seen a lot of my brothers in a long time."

With suspensions expected to be handed down on Monday, other current MLB players including Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Detroit Tigers infielder Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres could also see a similar fate since each player has been linked to the now-defunct Biogenesis Lab.

Alex Rodriguez is expected to appeal any penalties that come his way.
