Turns out Hollywood’s biggest award ceremonies have chosen their hosts for next year. The Oscars confirmed Chris Rock (for the second time) as the host of the 88th Academy Awards, as announced by producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin and the Golden Globes have invited Ricky Gervais to host their 73rd ceremony, which will take place on 10 January in Los Angeles. As for Gervais, he had vowed in 2012 to never host the awards again, but took to Twitter to explain his decision: “It's a good job I'm drunk. Otherwise the thought of hosting The Golden Globes again would seem like a real pain in the arse.”
As for Rock, he is very excited to have been invited back. “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” he said. “It’s great to be back.” And so are the producers, who assure Rock is going to be a “phenomenal Oscar host.” As for Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, she is also convinced Rock will bring his A-game to the show. “He is certain to bring his amazing array of talents to this year’s show,” Boone said.
Both hosts are outstanding comedians and will most likely do a great job. Chris Rock is going to have to top Ellen Degeneres’ second round of Oscar-hosting in 2014 and Gervais will be following BFFs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s hilarious performance. As NBC Entertainment chairman, Robert Greenblatt said: “Fasten your seatbelts.”
