Ricardo Medina Jr., former Power Rangers actor has been charged with stabbing to death his roommate with a sword. The 37-year old has plead not guilty to the charges to the January 2015 murder.
According to People, the actor has entered the plea of not guilty to one count of murder in the killing of Josh Sutter at his arraignment on Friday in Lancaster. If convicted he could face 26 years to life in prison.
It is reported that the two men were allegedly arguing about Medina’s girlfriend when the argument turned physical. Prosecutors claim that the actor stabbed Sutter several times in the abdomen at their house in Green Valley, Los Angeles.
After the attack, Entertainment Weekly reports that the actor was said to have called the police and first responders took Sutter to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Following Sutter’s death, Medina was arrested but then quickly released early February 2015 after the District attorney’s Office did not feel there was enough sufficient evidence to charge him of the crime.
“I want to say I am very, very, very sorry for what occurred,” Medina told the media after his release. “I’m very happy to be out of jail and my heart goes out to the Sutter family. Thank you.”
In January 2016 the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced that they would be charging Medina with one count of murder for his role in the stabbing. After being arrested and charged, the former star’s bail was set at $1million.
Medina’s attorney at the time of the arrest stated that Medina was simply acting in self -defense.
The actor is best known for his role as the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger on the hit shoe Power Rangers Wild Force in 2002. His next court appearance is set for October 20.
