Retired Police Officer Loses It And Beats Wife To Death, Arrested

A local governing head and former police officer, Daniel Salka, was arrested in Bauchi, Nigeria. The former police officer is believed to responsible for the death of his wife Hajara Daniel. The official has been suspended from office as an investigation into the woman’s death continues.

It is believed that on Monday, April 19 the woman was beaten to death by her enraged husband. It is not known what led to the man’s fatal attack on his wife. After the attack, the man was not arrested till Monday, April 26. It is unclear why it took the joint forces of local vigilantes and the Department of State Services a week to arrest the man.

Salka, after being arrested by the joined task force from Bayara suburb, was handed over to the police. He has remained in police custody at Bogoro since the arrest, the Punch reported.

While serving in the police, Salka had held the rank of the Assistant Superintendent of Police. After leaving the police force, he became the head of Sabon Layi hamlet in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Following the incident, Iliya Habila, the Chairman of Bogoro Local Government Council of Bauchi State, announced Salka’s suspension. The Guardian reported that in his statement Habila said that the suspension was due to the alleged act of violence that led to Hajara’s death. The Director of Administration and General Services, Marcus Nehemiah, signed the letter before it was disclosed.

Salka remains in police custody and will remain suspended till the outcome of the investigation. The charges against him have not been revealed.

In another case of a police officer claiming the life of his wife, Hadson Mkondo Wakise a police constable of Kenya’s Ministry of Interior VIP protection unit was involved in a murder-suicide.

Hadson reportedly got into an argument with his wife Pauline Wakise on April 6. The woman was a traffic officer attached to Nairobi’s Kilimani Police Station. After being accused of infidelity, the man used his service revolver to shoot his wife in the chest multiple times. Leaving Pauline dead, the disturbed officer fatally shot himself. Their bodies were discovered shortly after the incident in their home.
