Remains Of Missing Michigan Couple And Their Son Discovered In Woods Outside Stuck Car

A Michigan couple and their 8-month old son who were reported missing for nearly two weeks have been found dead. The Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the bodies of the family were spotted in a wooded area off Stoney Ridge Road over the weekend.

The family was last seen in the Standish -Sterling area after they dropped off their 9-year-old daughter at a friend’s house on Jan. 12.

In a statement, officials said the bodies of Michael Dougherty, 35, Amanda Pomeroy, 32, and their 8-month-old son Jacob Dougherty were found on January 23 by a snowmobiler who spotted a stranded pick-up truck matching the description of the family’s vehicle.

ABC affiliate WJRT reported that when the couple failed to answer their phones or their social media accounts, family members became concerned and alerted the Bay City Department of Public Safety (BCDPS) to report them missing on Jan. 16.

According to police, the bodies were located outside the vehicle and the family’s pick-up truck was disabled and stuck on a large rock on the two-track roadway, People.com wrote.

The Sheriff’s Office said the autopsies revealed preliminary results indicating that hypothermia and exposure to the cold winter elements were the cause of the family’s deaths.

"Investigation of the incident indicates no foul play and that the deaths are the result of a tragic set of circumstances," the sheriff's office said.

A toxicology report and a final autopsy report are currently pending and the incident remains under investigation.

At the same time, a GoFundMe page was set up to assist the couple's older daughter, Michelle who was not with them when they died.
