On July 8, former “Glee” star, Naya Rivera, was reported missing after a trip to Lake Piru, when her 4-year-old son, Josey, was found onboard a boat, alone and sleeping. As shared by authorities, before Rivera disappeared, she and her son were swimming in Lake Piru. While till yesterday, she was presumed missing but as per the information given by her son, it is believed that she drowned in the California Lake.
Rivera was reported missing after she and her son Josey, whom she shared with ex-husband Ryan Jorsey, did not come back to return the pontoon boat they rented for a three-hour rental period. The staff, who went out to look for her, found the boat at the north side of the lake, with Josey sleeping in it alone.
The little boy has shared with investigators that while he returned to the boat after swimming in the lake, his mother did not get back, as per a press release provided by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
"Rivera’s son told investigators that he and his mother had been swimming in the lake, and he got back in the boat, but Rivera did not," reads the press release. His statement and the amount of time that has elapsed since Rivera was reported missing has changed the search-and-rescue operation into a recovery mission as now authorities believe that Rivera drowned.
"Investigators believe Rivera drowned in what appears to be a tragic accident," the press release reads.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kevin Donoghue has shared that the "little boy was interviewed and based on the information he provided we are confident she is still in the water."
No evidence has been discovered that would hint at Rivera making it to the shore. Emergency responders have searched the "shoreline for any clues whatsoever, any personal items, any footprints, anything that would indicate that she made it out of the water and because of the absence of those clues, that is why the focus of the search right now is in the water," Donoghue said.
"She could have suffered a medical episode. We just don’t know. We won’t know until we find her," Donoghue added.
