A start-up company CEO has been slapped with nine years behind bars after he lured an 18-year-old girl to a job interview only to rape her, deliberately turning up the music in his office to drown out the victim's plea for help.
The sex offender, Mohamed Mohamed, 43, of Handsworth, had previously been found guilty of rape and false imprisonment following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. He remains registered as a sex offender for life.
The Daily Record reported that the victim reported to the defendant’s Small Heath office on Oct. 14 last year for a job interview at his start-up company Gulf Care Ltd. when he lunged at the woman and sexually harassed her.
The victim had repeatedly protested against his sexual advances, however, Mohamed had adjusted his music to maximum volume to overpower her cries. He then manhandled the 18-year-old to the floor, stripped her of her trousers, and raped her against her will.
Following the appalling sexual attack, the teen attempted to flee the Coventry Road business when the unhinged suspect allegedly grabbed her violently and trapped her in the office because he wanted to pay her first for sex.
The disgraceful company boss later accompanied her to a cash point and handed her £20 (US$23.71).
The ordeal reportedly lasted some few minutes despite the two staying in the man's office for a couple of hours, the defendant's legal camp argued. The man reportedly offered the job candidate free training during the job interview, just a few hours before the sexual attack.
The business was reportedly hiring people who wanted to serve as health care assistants for care homes at the time.
Passing sentence, Judge Sarah Buckingham noted that the company had been in its early stages as the man appeared to have little idea how to manage it. She said she was considering accepting that Gulf Care Ltd was not a fake business.
“Unsurprisingly young women responded to your advert including the victim and her friends although she was the only one you interviewed,” she said.
The 18-year-old female victim had applied to the job opening via text, with the CEO responding to her application through WhatsApp. The man allegedly attached a supposedly formal business exchange to a photo of the victim dressed in a bikini, which was shared in her storyboard at the time, the Birmingham Mail noted.
“I do not doubt that you found her attractive from viewing that,” Judge Buckingham noted.
The judge further asserted that while the victim had some misgiving from that incident, she ignored his behavior because she viewed him as a potential employer. The 18-year-old did not want to waste the job opportunity and placed her trust with the boss for her possible employment anyway, she said.
In a victim impact statement, the 18-year-old claimed what had happened had destroyed her trust in men and that she remains haunted by the horrific ordeal she experienced.
Mohamed had been married for 15 years and is the primary caretaker of his wife, who is disabled, according to Techbondhu. During the pandemic, the offender had received a letter of gratitude for working for the NHS as a health care assistant, his legal camp claims.
