Rebel Wilson mocked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey during the British Academy Film Awards Sunday. She said it had everything from "drama to fantasy" but was "unfortunately" not nominated for this year's BAFTAs.
As the 42-year-old Australian actress went on to introduce the nominees for the Outstanding British Film category. She started with, "From drama to fantasy, Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview had it all. Unfortunately, that's not nominated in this category, but some incredible films are. Let's take a look at some of the most outstanding British films this year."
Harry and Meghan's tell-all interview, which aired on CBS in the United States on ITV in the UK in March last year, was nominated for a 2021 Television Critics Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a People's Choice Award. It was broadcast a year after they announced their withdrawal from their duties as working members of the Royal Family in January 2020.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shook the Royal Family and fans as they not only discussed their lives as a couple, but Meghan also opened up about her suicidal thoughts and their feelings of emotional and financial abandonment by the Royal Family. As they talked about their life as royals, the 40-year-old "Suits" actress also claimed that there were comments made privately to Harry by someone within the Royal Family concerning the skin color of their then-unborn son Archie.
Meanwhile, Wilson did not only focus on the Sussexes, she also commented on Prince Andrew, who referred to the restaurant chain Pizza Express during his 2019 Newsnight interview as part of an alibi regarding the day he was alleged to have slept with his sex accuser Virginia Roberts. During the interview with Emily Maitlis, the 62-year-old Duke of York firmly denied having sex with Roberts, insisting that it was impossible because he spent the day with his daughter, Princess Beatrice.
"So I was going to do a musical number as host, it was about Prince Andrew though. Um, no guys, it's no, it's not what you think." Wilson continued, "It was on roller skates, it's called Pizza Express. But don't worry, I'm not gonna do it, I'm not gonna sing. I'm saving my voice for the sequel to Cats." With her form-fitting red gown paired with her red lip, Rebel was also seen giving Vladimir Putin the middle finger, while a lot of stars wore black and Ukrainian ribbons in a mark of solidarity. The BAFTA returned in-person after a two years.
