According to AS in Spain, the UEFA Champions, Real Madrid, will be adding a new piece to their already stellar squad. Reports have surfaced that Madrid has agreed with Monaco in bringing the 2014 FIFA World Cup breakout star and Golden Boot winner, James Rodriguez, to their team.
It appears at this point, that Real Madrid is currently negotiating with Rodriguez’s current club Monaco on a transfer fee. It has been widely reported that as of now, the transfer fee could be in excess of $95 million for the 23-year olds services.
Rodriguez, who has only played one season for Monaco, is coming off the greatest stretch of soccer in his life and on the grandest stage no less, Rodriguez scored six goals in five appearances for his home country, Colombia, leading them to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
Rodriguez’s favorite player is Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronalado who also happens to be the reigning FIFA Balloon d’Or winner as well. Rodriguez was recently interviewed by Spanish newspaper Marca and talked about the possibility of teaming up with his favorite player growing up:
“Cristiano is a great player, a superstar in capital letters. Cristiano deservedly won the Ballon d’Or which recognizes the best player in the world. It’s really flattering to know that a club like Madrid, of such magnitude, are interested in me. It would be a dream to sign for the team of my dreams. I have a great deal of respect for other clubs and admire the good football they play, but ultimately Real Madrid are Real Madrid. I’ve always had a thing for them.” said Rodriguez.
Whether Rodriguez is able to fulfill his dream or not will come to fruition in the days, at this point it is up to current club Monaco to officially release him from the five-year contract he signed last year and if they can come to an agreement on Rodriguez’s transfer fee. I’m sure there will be other clubs interested in the star striker’s services as well.
In the meantime, check back with Latin Times as we will have all the latest transfer rumors and news as it becomes available. Below is a picture of Rodriguez with his hero, Ronaldo and his thoughts one last time of playing with him:
“It’s a dream, as I said, but also a privilege to play alongside players of such quality, all those world-class stars. It’s my life’s dream. If this finally happens, I only want to enjoy it.”
