A day care shooting in Quebec left 2 men dead Friday. Police responded to reports of a man with a rifle threatening a day care center in Gatineau, PQ. The city's police chief, Mario Harel reported that no children were physically harmed by the gunman.
However, when law enforcement arrived at the Quebec day care center, they found the purported assailant lying dead with his gun beside him. An employee of the day care center was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. Canadian authorities are releasing few details about the attack, with "The Star" reporting the shooter's death was an apparent suicide.
Harel disclosed that the attack was likely premeditated following a domestic dispute or separation. The day care center is spread between two adjacent homes, so it is not reportedly a standalone building, according to Sgt. Jean-Paul LeMay. The 53 children at the day care were found safe and sound following the shooting. An investigation is ongoing and the identities of the shooter and victim have not yet been released.
Gatineau is a sizeable city directly across the Ottawa River from the Canadian capital.
