Ex-defense aide for former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, Alexander Temerko said Vladimir Putin is leading Russia to a state of destruction. Temerko, now a British businessman, compared Putin’s war on Ukraine to China’s invasion of Vietnam some 40 years ago. He said the Russian leader can be likened to Deng Xiaoping however, unlike the Chinese leader, Putin does not know when to quit.
In an article he wrote for the Daily Mail, Temerko pointed out how Putin has been ignoring vital lessons from China’s invasion of Vietnam in 1979. Although weakened by war and poverty, Vietnam had 100,000-strong Vietnamese troops who fought and resisted the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. In just two months, Deng Xiaoping’s mythical invincible army was reduced to the “dustbin of history”.
The Eastern superpower was unable to topple the small yet battle-hardened and strongly motivated Vietnamese Military force. This could be said the same for Russia’s failed attempts to take over the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv. "Now, look at the situation in Ukraine. The Russian Army has given up any attempt to take the capital Kyiv from a hugely motivated Ukrainian Army …” Temerko wrote.
"Putin, however, is not nearly as clever as Deng Xiaoping. He continues the war — and in so doing, remains hostage to his own propaganda,” he added.
Echoing China’s actions, Temerko noted that instead of pushing through with his invasion of Vietnam, Deng Xiaoping withdrew his troops after realizing how a booming economy and global integration were much more important for the Empire than keeping up with the image of being the fiercest army the world has ever known.
Putin’s state propaganda is seen every year in the Red Square when Russian soldiers are paraded in a grandiose display of its vast arsenal of weapons, and military vehicles to mark the defeat of Nazi Germany during its Victory Day celebrations.
Putin is trapped in his ideology and propaganda and plays blind to the fact that Russia has become an "aggressor and pariah", Temerko noted.
Invading Ukraine has resulted in the consolidation of the West and the former Yeltsin defense aide said the outcome of this will deliver a harsh powerful lesson for tyrants. He expounded on how Russia’s oil and gas supplies will soon be replaced by green nuclear energy supported and built by a united West to drive the Russian economy to the ground while Ukraine will see the destruction of the Russian Army.
Furthermore, Ukraine’s head of military intelligence, Major General Kyrylo Budanov said a coup to unseat Vladimir Putin is already underway. He claimed that the country’s war against Russia will reach a turning point by mid-August and could see its end before 2022 comes to a close.
