In celebration of National Soup Month, Progresso™ launched a new product—a savory hard candy meant to mimic a bowl of chicken noodle soup—that sold out almost immediately upon its release on Jan. 16.

Progresso competitor Campbell's Soup claims to have designated January National Soup Month 1984, with soup fans and industry members happy to adopt the tradition in subsequent years. January, a month where winter weather and flu season often peak, is a prime time for comfort food, which Progress is now testing in a new, room temperature format.

Marketed as "soup you can suck on," Progresso Soup Drops boast the same flavors of broth, savory vegetables, tender chicken, soft egg noodles, and a hint of parsley typically presented in less solid form. The hard candies are delivered in a signature soup can filled with 20 individually wrapped Soup Drops and each purchase comes with a can of Progresso's Traditional Chicken Noodle Soup, all for $2.49 plus $0.99 shipping.

"Our Chicken Noodle Soup has been a go-to comfort for decades," said MC Comings, VP, Business Unit Director for Progresso at General Mills. "So, we thought, why stop at the bowl? Soup Drops offer a fun and convenient way to enjoy that same comfort on the go."

Due to overwhelming demand, Progresso is releasing additional quantities every Thursday throughout National Soup Month while supplies last.
