Princess Diana and Prince Charles sat down for an interview with BBC News just a day before they tied the knot on July 29, 1981. They were interviewed by the news station’s anchor, Angela Rippon, and ITV’s Andrew Gardener. And as there was a growing excitement for the “Wedding of the Decade,” the world tuned in to the interview to see the couple before they exchange “I Dos.”

It has been 38 years since she sat down with the couple to discuss about their future as husband and wife, but it was only now that Rippon realized that Princess Diana showed signs that her marriage to Prince Charles will be chaotic and will not last. The news anchor shared this shocking detail after analyzing the princess’ body language more than three decades after they sat down for the pre-wedding interview.

According to a report, Rippon appeared in a documentary titled “Charles And Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding.” She said that for years she didn’t have the chance to watch the footage in full. But after she did, she was shocked as Princess Diana already showed what her future with Prince Charles will be like. And when the realization hit her, she found it to be a chilling discovery.

The journalist said that her questions for the royal couple had been pre-approved by the palace, and she was warned not to ask anything that is not on the script. Upon meeting Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Rippon said that they looked very much in love and excited for their wedding.

However, it turned out that the Princess of Wales’ body language told a different story, and it was caught on camera. At the end of the interview, the journalist expressed her wish for the royal couple to have “many happy years together.” After saying this, she observed that Di’s expression seemed to have revealed how their marriage will turn out in the future.

“That expression on Diana’s face at the end speaks volumes,” Rippon said in the documentary. “He looks at her and she just looks away, down at the floor. Goodness, maybe we should have read so much more into that as it might have told us so much more about what was to come."

The now 74-year-old former news anchor added that Prince Charles was more relaxed than his bride-to-be during the interview. Rippon further noted that Michael Shea, the Queen’s press secretary at that time, was acting strange and reminded her not to ask inappropriate questions. She said that she also saw him telling Diana not to say anything about the details of her wedding dress.

In any case, Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding might have been unfortunate from the beginning because it was also reported that Queen Elizabeth’s son had reservations about marrying the 20-year-old woman because she was so young. Hours before their nuptials, the prince allegedly described her future wife as “exquisitely pretty and a perfect poppy, but she is a child.”

The Prince of Wales then told his friends that he’s in a confused and anxious state of mind and is also terrified of making a promise that he would regret later in his life. After hearing this, his pals already saw that the marriage will end up in absolute disaster. Years later, the whole world saw how Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage collapsed due to the controversial extramarital affair involving Camilla Parker Bowles.
