Princess Beatrice of York may be ninth in line to the British throne, but she has so far kept a low profile. Known to friends as Bea, the fifth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II is not a “working royal” but is a fixture at many of the royal family’s most important events. Here are unexpected facts about Princess Beatrice.

1. She was diagnosed with dyslexia

The elder daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the Duke and Duchess of York, was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was seven years old. She revealed her struggle with the learning disorder in 2005 and has since supported charities involved with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.

2. She was in a 10-year relationship with a former Uber executive

Princess Beatrice dated U.S.-born Dave Clark for a decade before they split up in 2016. The two were frequently seen at royal family occasions and were thought to be inseparable. The young royal even followed her beau to the U.S., where he worked for the ride-sharing app Uber.

However, according to The Telegraph, not everyone in Princess Beatrice’s family approved of the match. It has been noted that while the Duke of Cambridge introduced the two, he pointedly did not invite Clark to his wedding to the Duchess of Cambridge in 2011. It was widely reported that Bea broke up with Clark when it became clear that no marriage proposal was forthcoming.

Shortly after parting ways with Princess Beatrice, Clark started dating Lynn Anderson, an American advertising executive. They got engaged in May 2017 and married in Italy in July 2018.

3. She was in a Hollywood film

Princess Beatrice made her film debut in the 2009 film “The Young Victoria,” which starred Emily Blunt as Queen Victoria and was produced by Martin Scorsese and her mother, the Duchess of York. Playing the role of a lady-in-waiting, Bea became the first member of the British royal family to appear in a non-documentary film.

4. She may soon become a stepmother

Since 2018, Princess Beatrice has been dating Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, an Italian real estate millionaire. Bea and Edo, as he is known to friends, have known each other for years. Princess Beatrice’s parents were good friends with Christopher Shale, Edo’s stepfather, who was found dead in a toilet during the Glastonbury Festival in 2011.

Though the couple has only been dating for about a year, there’s already talk of an upcoming engagement. This would bring a royal stepchild into the fold. According to Town & Country, Edo has a toddler son from a previous relationship with architect Dara Huang.
