For members of the royal family, it’s pretty hard to keep their love life private. And once the public knows it, someone will always find ways to nitpick their choice of romantic partners. For instance, Princess Beatrice, Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter and Prince William’s cousin, has raised some eyebrows for dating a couple of controversial men in the past.
Paolo Liuzzo
Princess Beatrice, a royal who is ninth in line to the British throne, made headlines in the past for her choice of boyfriends. Perhaps the most controversial of them all was an ex-boyfriend who is reportedly a convicted felon.
Princess Beatrice reportedly dated a convict back in 2006. Her boyfriend then was Paolo Liuzzo, who was convicted of assault and battery. He was originally accused of manslaughter for his involvement in a drunken brawl that killed a teenager.
Fortunately, the more serious charge of manslaughter was later dropped. As a result, Liuzzo only did community service but no prison time.
While her mother, Sarah Ferguson, was understandably worried about her choice of boyfriend, she defended her daughter’s decision nonetheless.
“As any parent will know, the most important element in a relationship with your child is trust,” Sarah explained why she supported Prince Beatrice. “We all have our own journeys and have to learn our way but Beatrice is a sensible girl, soon to be 18, with many friends including Paolo. We must trust her judgement.”
Dave Clark
While Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend Dave Clark was well-liked by most members of the royal family, there’s one particular royal who’s not fond of Clark. While it’s not so clear just why her cousin did not approve of Dave, a source said that it’s because of a clash of personalities.
“William isn't a huge fan of Dave,” the source claimed. “It's fair to say that if Beatrice had asked the Queen for permission to marry Dave, and she in turn asked William privately for his view, she may not have been given a glowing report.”
It’s ironic that Prince William would end up not liking Clark as he was the one who introduced him to Princess Beatrice. The two met when William introduced them at the birthday party of Pierce Brosnan’s son.
