Prince Harry allegedly sought Prince William’s approval before he asked the public to stop bothering his then-girlfriend Meghan Markle. The prince issued a statement in 2016, when he admitted his relationship with the “Suits” actress, and asked people to leave his woman alone.

The prince was forced to release a statement because Meghan was being harassed, and people were leaving racial comments due to her origin and family. As the actress was already suffering from the abuse, he pleaded with the media and the public to stop inconveniencing his girlfriend.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” part of the statement from the Palace’s communications secretary reads. “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game — it is her life and his.”

Prior to releasing this statement, Prince Harry was said to have consulted with Prince William first. The Duke of Cambridge reportedly told him that it’s not a good move, and he clearly disapproved of his brother’s plan to go public. The Independent reported that William was really unhappy with his younger brother’s decision to confirm his relationship with Meghan, but there’s nothing he could do.

As per Cosmopolitan, Sky News reporter Carole Malone relayed that William tried to tell his brother not to rush into things because he had only known Meghan for less than a year when they got engaged. After hearing this, Harry was said to have gone ballistic. “You’re trying to wreck this relationship before it’s even started,” he reportedly told his brother.

Prince William’s response was allegedly the cause of their rift because Harry felt that his brother didn’t back him up when in the past he supported his relationship with Kate 100 percent. The Duke of Sussex was disappointed that his brother didn’t support his relationship with Meghan, and his disapproval was allegedly the root cause of their ongoing feud.

But then the rumors of their conflict appeared to be false because it was reported that Prince William approved Prince Harry’s appeal for trolls to leave Meghan alone. It was explained that the Duke of Cambridge agreed with his younger brother when he said that the situation concerning Meghan had gone too far, and hence they had to do something.

“The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy,” the statement from Kensington Palace reads. “He supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”
