Prince Philip has been discharged from the hospital after spending four days at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London. He was released on Dec. 24, just in time to celebrate and be with his family on Christmas Eve.
Queen Elizabeth’s husband was brought to the said medical facility on Dec. 20 and it was said that his hospitalization was just a precautionary measure for an undisclosed condition. It was revealed that his doctor wants him confined for treatment and observation.
"The Duke of Edinburgh has today left hospital after being discharged by his Doctor and is now back at Sandringham," the Buckingham Palace announced in a statement via The Telegraph. "His Royal Highness would like to thank everyone who sent their good wishes."
People reported that a royal source said that when Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital, he walked going there since it was a scheduled admission. Earlier this week, Prince Charles personally issued a statement to ease concerns about the health condition of the Duke of Edinburgh.
"He’s being looked after very well in hospital,” the publication quoted the prince as telling the reporters as he was visiting South Yorkshire. "At the moment that’s all we know."
It appeared that Prince Philip’s health condition is not really to be concerned about as even Queen Elizabeth is relaxed while her husband is in the hospital. She reportedly spoke with her husband before he was confined and is being updated about the duke’s health. Her Majesty also traveled to Sandringham in Norfolk, England, as usual, to start her own Christmas break while her other half was admitted in London.
In any case, when Prince Philip was discharged, he also walked out to his waiting car unaided. He was said to have been driven to the Buckingham Palace then flew to Sandringham via helicopter.
His release from the hospital on the morning of Dec. 24 means he will be with Queen Elizabeth on Christmas Eve. The 98-year-old will also get to watch Her Majesty’s annual speech with the Royal family
Meanwhile, Prince Philip officially retired from his public duties in 2017. His last public appearance so far was during Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding to Thomas Kingston which took place at St. George's Chapel.
