If credible sources are anything to go by; the year heralds new and lucrative innings for Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex was reportedly offered the role of a chief impact officer by BetterUp, a $1bn Silicon Valley start-up.

His role, as reported by The Wall Street Journal will entail offering professional coaching, mental health advice, and “immersive learning”. Harry, who’s been vocal about his struggles in the past, is perceived to be the perfect fit to inspire millions out there.

“I firmly believe that focusing on and prioritizing our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunities that we never knew we had inside of us. As the Royal Marine Commandos say, ‘It’s a state of mind’. We all have it in us,” said Harry in a press release, confirming his association with the start-up. “What I’ve learned in my own life is the power of transforming pain into purpose,” he added.

If things go as per plan, this could be Harry’s first gig at a private firm since he stepped down from his responsibilities as a working member of the British Royal Family, a year ago.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle had made their interests clear—to become financially independent ever since they make inroads into LA, and things are panning out just fine for the couple, who’ve also landed impressive deals with Netflix and Spotify.

While it’s too early to say what the new opportunities might open up for the Duke; speculations are rife that this new position could just be Harry’s calling. Largely because it would help him inspire and motivate millions out there to come to terms with trauma and heal—just the way he did.

Thinking along similar lines; Alexi Robichaux, the chief executive of BetterUp, said: “It’s a meaningful and meaty role.” He, however, did not disclose the commercial aspect of onboarding the royal. But, in New York, a chief impact officer gets an average salary of $87,639 a year, which has now decreased to $68,835 in California, according to ZipRecruiter.

BetterUp recently raised $125 million, skyrocketing its value to $1.7 billion. The start-up claims to have clients including Hilton, Nasa, Chevron, and Mars onboard.

Harry and Robichaux reportedly connected through a mutual friend and were in talks about the collaboration since last autumn. Fast forward to March, and Harry finally signed the papers.

The Duke has a history of working closely with mental health charities and non-profit organizations, so onboarding him seems like a well-thought-out strategy. He founded the Invictus Games, an event in the past for ailing and disabled armed service personnel to use sport to channel their energy and focus on psychological and physical rehabilitation. He’s also the brainchild behind Sentebale, a charitable initiative that supports the mental health and wellbeing of young people affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.
