A sexual assault lawsuit against Prince Andrew could lead to the Duchess of York being called to stand as witness. The lawyers representing Prince Andrew’s accuser have already stated intentions to speak with two British witnesses, leading observers to speculate that the Duke of York’s former wife Sarah Ferguson may be handed a subpoena any time soon.
According to The Sun, Sigrid McCrawley, one of the lawyers representing complainant Virginia Roberts Giuffre, has suggested that the British royal’s ex-wife could definitely be asked for a deposition. Ferguson was divorced from the Duke in 1996 after a 10-year-marriage with palace sources saying the pair have remained close to this day.
Meanwhile, Andrew’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler said he is also seeking a similar number of depositions to counter the accuser's claims and seeking to quiz Roberts moving forward having branded her to be a “money-hungry sex kitten” and allegedly the “head b**h” in Epstein’s trafficking ring.
In a brief hearing in New York Wednesday, District Judge Lewis Kaplan has set a provisional date for court proceeding possibly between September to December 2022 pending the need for letters rogatory, also known as a formal request to British legal authorities for a witness interview.
The lawsuit had stemmed from Roberts’ allegations that Jeffrey Epstein had ordered her to have sex with the Duke of York three times in 2001 when she was 17 years old. Andrew has since strongly denied all claims by Roberts having had his legal team working to get the case tossed out.
Now 61, the Duke has vehemently insisted that he has “no recollection” of meeting Roberts. In a 2019 interview, he told Newsnight that on the day they had supposedly gone dancing and eventually had sex with Roberts, he was at a Pizza Express restaurant in Woking Surrey.
Roberts’ civil lawsuit claims she was forced to have sex with Andrew in two of Epsteins properties, namely on Little St. James, Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean and his mansion in New York. She has also made accusations of being trafficked to London in March 2001 at the time she was placed in a photograph next to the Duke at Ghislaine Maxwells’ house.
Roberts insisted Andrew had full knowledge she was a minor and a victim of sex trafficking by Epstein.
