"Pretty Little Liars" fans are in for a serious change following last night's Season 4 finale "A is for Answers," Not only will the premise and structure of the series change, but also the character interactions, now that Ali is back in Rosewood permanently. Ever since Ali's disappearance on that fateful September night, Mona has used her master manipulation skills to turn the tables on the Liars and essentially make her original tormentors pay for making her pre-teen years less than ideal. In Season 5 Mona, who was the original "A" in the series, may be back up to her old ways mainly due to Ali's presence back in Rosewood. "Pretty Little Liars" star Janel Parrish, who portrays the scheming Mona explained her characters reaction to her world being essentially turned upside down, "everything will change when Ali comes back" in Season 5.
It seems like the Liars aren't the only ones reeling from the return of their former fearless leader, and if you thought Ali's return was going to reunite Mona with the Liars, you better reconsider. In Season 5 the claws are coming out and this time Mona is not hiding behind a black hoodie. Ali's return to Rosewood is set to make Mona's life more complicated, in addition to obviously putting a strain on the last bit of hope her relationship with Hanna had, it opens old wounds. Ali, in addition to the other Liars, tortured Mona, continually making her the punch line of jokes, and refusing to even acknowledge her attempts at friendship. But now with Ali vulnerable, will Mona be primed and ready to make her the bullied, instead of the bully? We are thinking yes. Unfortunately, despite Ali's best attempts, Mona has a much more cruel brain than the blonde ever did. Ali's torture of Mona, was literally child's play, when compared to what Mona put the Liars through as "A" and we are assuming she has even more in mind for Ali.
While fans try to figure out if Mona is going to go off the "A" deep end in Season 5, it seems like the mystery of her morality is what makes Mona great to portray on "Pretty Little Liras." "I kinda love that nobody ever knows whether she can be trusted or not," Janel revealed "I think that it makes Mona a fun character." But even though Mona has seriously terrified fans out in the early seasons of the series, Season 4 was a bit of a game changer. A softer side of Mona emerged in Season 4 notably during her relationship, with Aria's younger brother Mike. Mona even went so far as to break off the short-lived fling in order to protect him from Ezra, she was caught up in the midst of his investigation and didn't want to get any more involved, meaning that she had to break things off with Mike. The break up devastated Mike, but the worst part was it also devastated Mona, who was only trying to do the right thins after she had fallen for him. Janel explained, "I would say that she definitely really liked Mike, and I loved playing that because I think it was really nice to see a different side of people. She has her moments of devious ways, but ultimately, she is a person with emotional appeal."
