A telenovela is not a telenovela without a heroine, someone we can look up to, that has convictions and morals. All of the characters that our leading ladies interpreted this year had values and we have had a hard time deciding who will win. Those nominated as Best Lead Actress are: Maite Perroni for "Antes Muerta Que Lichita," Esmeralda Pimentel for "La Vecina," Michelle Renaud for "La Sombra Del Pasado," Zuria Vega for "Que Te Perdone Dios" and Livia Brito for "Muchacha Italiana Viene A Casarse." In the male category for Best Lead Actor the following are nominated: Arath De La Torre for "Antes Muerta Que Lichita," Osvaldo Benavides for "A Que No Me Dejas," Pablo Lyle for "La Sombra Del Pasado," Juan Diego Covarrubias for "La Vecina" and Jorge Salinas for "Pasión y Poder."
The Best Telenovela category is the top award of the night and it is usually reserved for that story that captivated all audiences, the ones that made us dream and live like if we were living the drama on screen. This year the following scored a nod and competing for the prize: "Antes Muerta Que Lichita," "A Que No Me Dejas," "La Vecina," "La Sombra Del Pasado," "Muchacha Italiana Viene A Casarse" and "Pasión y Poder."
Premios TVyNovelas 2016 will be different this year. Organizers are giving back the power to the fans, the people that watch telenovelas nightly. Viewers have been voting online for their favorites in a multitude of categories. In the past, a panel of judges voted for the winners during the live event. The panel was composed of experts like critics, producers, writers, radio and television personalities, who were pre-selected and voted in each category for the most deserving winner. With this year's edition, all of that is gone and fans have complete control.
