A pregnant woman was brutally murdered in an attack that left her with a dead baby that was ripped out of her womb. Pamella Ferreira Andrade Martins, 21, was eight months pregnant when her dead body was found by police in her home in Nova Holanda, Brazil on March 17.
According to authorities, cops had to smash down her bathroom door to get to Martin’s butchered body on the floor with her stomach ripped open and her unborn baby missing.
In a story from The Sun, a family member who requested anonymity claimed that the assailant had locked Martins in the bathroom. A 22-year-old woman whose identity has not yet been released was arrested in connection with the gruesome murder.
The alleged suspect was admitted to the hospital after checking into a nearby A&E carrying the dead baby. Reports said the woman had told the health staff that she had given birth to the baby boy herself and had fallen down the stairs with him. However, after submitting herself to tests, results proved that she had not been pregnant, The Daily Mail wrote.
Family members told police that the suspect was a friend of Martins and had been pretending to be pregnant. They also told investigators the suspect was desperate to have a child and had uttered she “would get herself a child whatever it takes”. She was last seen in the victim's company the day before the murder. Upon her apprehension, a knife and a penknife were also found in her bag. The suspect was questioned at the police station but it is unclear if she remains in custody.
Police continue to investigate the case while an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death of the baby.
