A “dangerous” sex predator who allegedly forced his way into a family's home during a blackout and brutally raped a terrified mother has been sentenced to 12 and a half years behind bars.
David Sorlie, of Nailsworth Close, Boldon Colliery, South Tyneside, reportedly bit down on the victim's ears and lips as he brutally raped her after pushing her to the ground during the horrifying attack in November 2019, reported The Mirror.
The assault reportedly happened at around midnight during a blackout at the victim's home. The mother had answered the door thinking it was a workman who had knocked to reconnect their electricity, Newcastle Crown Court heard. Her children were sleeping upstairs during the ordeal.
The victim reportedly felt "broken" and "hollow" after the incident and had contemplated suicide after her horrific ordeal, Chronicle Live reports.
The mother now struggles with paranoia and trust issues, having a constant fear that she may never recover from the psychological impact of the attack.
"I am slowly starting to rebuild my life. I am getting stronger every day with the help from professionals, family and friends. I struggle to accept love and compassion," the victim said in a statement.
At the time of committing the crime, Sorlie, 35, was reportedly out on license after spending 27 months in prison for stabbing a man in the neck.
Even though Sorlie vehemently denied the rape and five other charges raised against him, Judge Edward Bindloss sentenced him to 12-and-a-half years jail time with an extended license period, saying: "You forced your way into the home of the complainant while you were under the influence of drugs or alcohol."
According to The Shields Gazette, Sorlie has reportedly been convicted prior for various serious offenses including violent offending, wounding, and robbery.
In 2009, he was reportedly jailed for 42 months for four robberies. He had also nabbed a phone from a girl who was walking home from school in 2014. In 2016, Sorlie reportedly approached a woman from behind before chasing her with a knife and robbing her.
In 2018, he was jailed for 27 months for stabbing a man in the neck. The man had reportedly told him to calm down as he was arguing with his girlfriend which led to Sorlie brutally stabbing him.
Apart from the 12-and-a-half-year prison sentence, Sorlie will also be handed down a lifelong restraining order that bans him from contacting the victim or going to her street.
