Russia launched massive attacks on Ukraine in recent days, resulting in many towns and villages without power and water. Worse, there reported casualties from drone and rocket strikes that started on Oct. 7.
According to emergency services spokesman Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, more than 70 people are dead from the said strikes.
Also, it was announced by Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky that about 30% of Ukraine’s power stations had been destroyed in the past eight days, BBC reported.
Tied to this, there were parts of Kyiv that had no power and water after the new strikes that hit on Tuesday.
It was also added by Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko that three victims of the latest Russian strikes were employees of critical infrastructure and that two facilities had been critically hit.
"Currently, according to the energy ministry, 1,162 settlements remain without power," an emergency services spokesman said.
Russia has stepped up its attacks after suffering painful setbacks in recent weeks, targeting electricity infrastructure in cities away from the frontlines.
Emergency response teams from Ukraine have rushed to try and repair the damage. However, concerns remain about how they will respond to address the damages.
Regardless, the deputy head of the president’s office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko warns that everyone should be ready, first, to save electricity, and second, rolling power blackouts are also possible if strikes continue.
"The entire population needs to prepare for a tough winter," he said
The attacks have forced Ukraine to properly manage the use of electric appliances daily, set up at certain times.
The attacks also come not long after kamikaze drones believed to be from Iran killed at least nine people in Kyiv and Sumy. However, it has yet to be clarified if the drones were involved in the attacks launched on Tuesday.
Ukraine said Russian bombers had fired missiles and one S-300 anti-aircraft missile had hit a residential building in the southern city of Mykolaiv overnight, killing one person. The city's flower market was also destroyed.
