After a long time of uncertainty, Superman will be back soon. Further, this means that the original star of “Man of Steel” will be back in Henry Cavill.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and the heads of Warner Bros. Pictures, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy are allegedly interested in seeing Cavill reprise his role as Superman.
The project would be essentially a sequel to the 2013 flick that was originally produced by Charles Roven. Hence, an active search for screenwriters is being done right now with “Mission: Impossible” writer/director Christopher McQuarrie.
However, Warner Bros. Discovery has not officially reached out to McQuarrie. It could be because he may be too preoccupied with other future installments of “Mission Impossible.”
Also, there were reportedly plans for Cavill to reprise his role on “Black Adam.” But all this was shut down after DC Films president Walter Hamada allegedly turned down the plans when they were first brought up during reshoots.
This could explain why Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased a possible Superman cameo, possibly teasing a what-could-have-been.
All that is however water under the bridge. A “Man of Steel 2” is now at the center of attention, something that initially made rounds back in August.
Although unconfirmed, some were hoping to get it addressed at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Cavill never appeared, something that left fans disappointed.
Also, Cavill has been open about his desire to return to the DCEU.
In a December 2021 interview, Cavill said that he still has his Superman suit and is ready and just waiting for a call. A month before that, the 39-year-old also claimed that he was not done playing the part of the Last Son of Krypton. He believed he had more storytelling to do than Superman.
While that may take some time, fans can check out “Black Adam” for the time being when it hits the big screen on Oct. 21, 2022.
