The Porsche 911 is nothing without its fans. While the 911 had always been a world class performer, Porsche's loyal following has been an undeniable factor that helped to guide the evolution of the "everyday sportscar" into the vehicle that it is today.
Realizing the importance of its loyal customer base, Porsche has created a very special limited-edition 911 Club Coupe to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first two Porsche Clubs. The first was founded by seven owners in Westphalia Germany in 1952. A few short months later, a second club was founded by another six owners. To date, 640 Porsche clubs in 75 different countries make up a total of 181,000 Porsche club members.
Based on a Porsche 911 Carrera S, the Club Coupe features the Carrera S Powerkit for an extra 30-hp to make 430-hp. Additional performance hardware include a PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) option that lowers the Club Coupe by 20 mm, as well as a set of 20-inch Sport Techno rims.
Providing the Club Coupe with a touch of class, Porsche chose a deep Brewster Green paint finish reminiscent of Steve McQueen's 1970 Porsche 911S matched with an Espresso leather interior. However, the key element that sets this limited-edition 911 apart has got to be the return of the classic ducktail spoiler.
Flawlessly executed, the only criticisms I can provide is its astronomically high price tag of $175,580 as well as its tiny production number of just 13 examples, to honor the original 13 Porsche club members. In fact, Porsche will be keeping one for itself, so only 12 will be availabe for the market. Finally, Porsche will only sell the 911 Club Coupe to recognized Porsche Club members after a lottery drawing system so even if a person had the money and the connections, owning a Club Coupe will still account for a good amount of luck too.
