It seems as though the Nurburgring is the only standard of measurement that matters to performance vehicles anymore. Naturally, Porsche brought its new 911 Carrera S flagship model sports car for a proper romp around the famous race track.
Under the skilled hands of racing driver Tmo Kluck, the 3.8-liter flat-six 400-hp Porsche 911 '991' Carrera S made its way through more than 160 corners and 14-miles of track in just 7 minutes and 37 seconds. A lap time comparable to the last generation Porsche 911 '997' GT3, the time-setting Carrera S featured options including a quick shifting PDK automatic transmission as well as the Sport Chrono Package.
A fine demonstration with how much further Porsche can polish a recipe nearly five decades old, the new Porsche 911 is only bested by one vehicle in the Porsche line-up -- last month, Porsche brought its halo 918 hybrid supercar to the Nurburgring, setting an asphalt blistering time of just 7 minutes 14 seconds.
