Last month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents claimed a driver had swerved towards them while they were dealing with a routine stop alongside the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake, in Utah.

But less than two weeks after the incident, UPD is saying surveillance footage failed to back up claims by ICE agents, and police have now dismissed the citation against the driver.

The episode took place on Jan. 26 in the city of Murray, located less than 10 miles south of Salt Lake City. When UPD officers arrived at the scene, ICE agents claimed the driver swerved at them. While they figured out what happened, the driver was placed in handcuffs by the ICE agents, despite police officers voicing concerns and recommending that the restraints be removed.

According to Fox13, when officers asked for clarification on what had occurred, "they were unable to obtain a clear response from ICE agents," according to a UPD release sent out on Feb. 4.

According to the release sent out by the department, the driver "appeared emotional, expressed distress over alleged threats made by the ICE agents." The man did admit to yelling and honking at the agents, but denied swerving towards them.

The release also points out that during the incident, ICE agents asked that UPD officers cite the driver, but two of the three refused to provide written statements about what had happened. After that, they suggested the man be cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, which the officers did before releasing the driver.

Less than two weeks later, UPD retrieved surveillance footage from nearby businesses. In the footage, authorities failed to show the driver swerving towards the ICE agents, and dismissed his citation.

Following the discovery, UPD officials contacted ICE to "express concerns regarding the inaccuracies and inconsistencies in their agents' statements."
