Nena Simone is a female Pit Bull that recently had eight little puppies. For circumstances that remain unknown, six of her babies died, leaving Nena heartbroken, with two puppies and a lot of milk.

Fortunately, Nena was rescued by Saving Grace Animal Rescue in Pasco County, and the organization's president, Kimberleigh Kernon made sure the mother Pit Bull was taken care of.

"She missed her babies," said Kernon, who described Nena as depressed. "And I was like, we need to get her some orphans or something."

She just said it and it happened. Kernon got a Facebook message that night with a link directing her to some orphan puppies in South Carolina, whose mother had gotten hit by a car.

The six Shih Tzu-Poodle mix puppies were days old, but Kernon managed to put together a network of rescue volunteers, who transported the puppies from South Carolina to Ocala, where she picked them up to bring them home to Nena.

At first, she was worried that the Pit Bull would reject them, but to her surprise, Nena ended up being more amazing than she thought.

"She (Nena) could hear them and she was going nuts in the room, and I brought them in, and she just literally pushed me out of the way and was getting to them," said Kernon.

Although the two surviving Pit Bulls look huge next to the Shih Tzu-Poodles, Nena nurses them equally and will care for them until they are ready to be put for adoption. "She's a good mama," Kernon said. "They sleep on top of each other and they snuggle together, and it's really neat."
