Claims of spotting UFOs are not uncommon, as people have claimed seeing aliens and mysterious carriers in the sky for decades. But the government of Peru has taken a unique approach to investigating these claims: Opening a UFO department. The Department of Investigation of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (DIFAA) has been assembled by the government to serve those "who observe seemingly unconventional phenomena, which cause surprise or concern, know that there is an institution that will study and research your information," according to Colonel Julio Vucetich. Those who want to share information can contact the telephone hotline of the department, send a message via email (dinae@fap.mil.pe) or use the website to report the UFO sightings.
The DIFAA is not a new department in the Peruvian government, as it was originally created in 2001. But the special department had to be shut down due to administrative problems five years ago. The department has been reopened as "increased sightings that are occurring in the country and that people are reporting to media," said Col Vucetich. to be exact, media reports have sighted mysterious objects in the town of Marabamba and in the central Andes. "Many people don't report UFO sightings because they fear they will be labelled mad or made fun of, but nowadays with new technology - cellphone videos, Facebook, Twitter - they can be much more open, without feeling that they are the only ones who have seen what they've seen," he said. It has been revealed that the DIFAA will be composed of sociologists, archaeologists, astronomers and air force personnel to investigate these situations and to figure out how the events occur. According to the official Andina news agency, Vucetish also added that the team will be investigating where and at what times the events take place. Just two weeks ago, luminous light balls were seen in Marabamba and alleged UFO sightings have been seen in Chilca. "There are various locations in Peru where there are regular sightings. What's bad is that those reports have never been proven so I can't, on behalf of the air force, verify those," Vucetich said. And if you assume that Peru is the only nation to have such an eccentric department, think again! In Latin America lone, neighboring countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay and Chile have such departments to investigate odd sightings.
